Dolphins finish a perfect December

By beating the Tennessee Titans 24-10, the Dolphins have their first 5-game winning streak since 1999 and their first undefeated December in 20 years. They now also have a winning record, 8-7!

With Ronnie Brown sitting out due to knee and ankle injuries, Ricky Williams carried the load for the Dolphins, carrying the ball 26 times for 172 yards and a touchdown. It was his first 100-yard game since 2003. Gus Frerotte had a mediocre day, completing 14 of 30 passes for 151 yards, 2 touchdowns (both to Chris Chambers) and one interception.

For the Titans, Steve McNair injured his pectoral muscle during pregame warmups, was uneffective while he played, and came out for backup Billy Volek in the second quarter. The Dolphins defense held the Titans to 234 total yards and caused 3 turnovers.

Colts finally lose one

Thanks to the San Diego Chargers (the same team the Dolphins beat last week), the 1972 Dolphins remain the only team in NFL history with a perfect record. The Chargers beat the Colts 26-17 in Indianapolis.

Dolphins win fourth straight, 24-20 over Jets

Sage Rosenfels took over for an injured Gus Frerotte and led the Dolphins to a comeback victory over the Jets, 24-20. Rosenfels went 6-for-13 with 99 yards and one touchdown. Before leaving the game, Frerotte had completed 8 of 16 passes for 76 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Rounding out the offense, Ricky Williams carried the ball 14 times for 70 yards and a touchdown, and Ronnie Brown gained 45 yards on 12 carries.

The Dolphins are now 7-7, a marked improvement over last season. However, they were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs today after victories by New England, Pittsburgh, and San Diego.

Dolphins upset Chargers, 23-21

The Dolphins defense held LaDainian Tomlinson to 75 yards on 21 carries to stun the San Diego Chargers, 23-21. Gus Frerotte completed 14 of 22 passes for 229 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Chris Chambers caught 8 of the passes (and both touchdowns) for 121 yards, marking his third straight game with over 100 yards receiving. The running game wasn't as productive. Ricky Williams carried the ball 11 times for 30 yards, and Ronnie Brown added 11 more carries for 28 yards.

Some thought the Chargers took the Dolphins too lightly and looked ahead to their next game against the Colts, but I'll take a win any way it comes.

Frerotte to start this Sunday

Despite Sage Rosenfels' impressive preformance against the Bills, coach Saban stated that Gus Frerotte will remain the starter.

I admit that I have been in the Sage Rosenfels camp for a while now, not because I think he's significantly better than Frerotte, but because I think Frerotte has proved that he is not the answer at quarterback, so the team should give Rosenfels more of a chance to develop to see if he will be the QB of the future. Frerotte obviously is not, given his age and (lack of) skills.

At least one ex-Dolphin sides with me. Former wide receiver O. J. McDuffie is quoted as saying, "Sage should definitely be the starter now. He makes better throws than Gus Frerotte. He puts the ball right where it needs to be placed."

Dolphins stun Bills with comeback win, 24-23

With Sage Rosenfels leading the charge, the Dolphins pulled off their biggest comeback victory since 1974, beating the Buffalo Bills 24-23 on a fourth down touchdown pass from Rosenfels to Chris Chambers with six seconds left. The Bills had a 23-3 margin with 12 minutes remaining before Rosenfels directed his three touchdown drives. He finished the day hitting on 22 of 37 passes for 272 yards, 2 touchdowns, and one interception. Starter Gus Frerotte completed 12 of 28 passes for 115 yards before being knocked out with a concussion. With all the passing, the running attack didn't get much play. Ricky Williams carried the ball 11 times for 46 yards and a touchdown, and Ronnie Brown added 22 yards on 9 carries.
