Ricky Williams expected to play in CFL

According to a Miami Herald story, the Dolphins are expected to allow Ricky Williams to play in the Canadian Football League next season while serving a one-year suspension from the NFL. The benefit of such a move is that Ricky will be able to stay in football shape rather than sitting out a year. The downside is the risk of injury should he play in the CFL.

Dolphins sign Vick, officially get Harrington

The Dolphins signed Marcus Vick to a free agent contract, but if he is to make the team, it will likely be as a wide receiver or returner. Vick was unimpressive as a QB during the rookie camp and played only at wide receiver on the final day of camp.

In other news, the trade involving Joey Harrington is complete. The Dolphins will give the Lions a conditional sixth round pick in 2007 for Harrington.

Moore trade nixed, Dolphins close to getting Harrington

The trade that I wrote about yesterday involving Eddie Moore was cancelled because Moore failed his physical. The teams may revisit the trade in the future.

In other news, a source close to Joey Harrington said a deal between the Lions and Dolphins have been struck, allowing Harrington to go to Miami. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Dolphins trade LB Moore

Eddie Moore, the Dolphins' first selection in the 2003 draft (in the second round) was traded to New Orleans for LB Courtney Watson. To say that Moore was a reach in the draft would be an understatement. Shortly after he was drafted, Moore reportedly said he was surprised to be picked so high. Moore has had an injury-plagued career for the Dolphins and has made no impact thus far. As for his counterpart, Courtney Watson, all I know about him is that the Saints picked him in the second round in 2004.

Marcus Vick tries out with Dolphins

The Dolphins invited Marcus Vick, the undrafted brother of Michael Vick, to attend the team's rookie minicamp this weekend. The camp is similar to a tryout, and Vick has not been offered a contract.

I was wondering who was going to give Vick a shot. Even though Marcus isn't as athletically gifted as his brother, he would've been drafted if not for all of his off-field transgressions, ultimately leading to his being kicked off the Virginia Tech team.

2006 draft picks

Here are the Dolphins' draft picks for 2006:

Rd 1. Jason Allen - S - Tennessee
Rd 3. Derek Hagan - WR - Arizona State
Rd 4. Joe Toledo - OT - Washington
Rd 7. Frederick Evans - DT - SW Texas State
Rd 7. Rodrique Wright - DT - Texas
Rd 7. Devin Aromashodu - WR - Auburn

Note that the team did not have any picks in the 2nd, 5th, and 6th rounds.

On paper, this looked like a mediocre draft at best, certainly not as good as last year's. While the team did address their needs at WR and DT (although the DTs taken were more projects than possible starters), they still have holes at LB, RB, and possibly CB if Allen can't play that position.
