Dolphins trade for McDaniel, trade away Satele

The Miami Dolphins dealt a seventh round draft pick to Jacksonville for DT Tony McDaniel. McDaniel started three games in 2008 and is projected to add depth at defensive tackle or end.

On the flip side, the team also traded center Samson Satele to the Oakland Raiders for an undisclosed draft pick. Satele became expendable after the Dolphins signed Jake Grove as a free agent. In essence, the two teams swapped centers, and the Dolphins got a draft pick out of it too.

Dolphins sign CB Green

The Dolphins attempted to fill the cornerback vacancy left by Andre Goodman's departure by signing Eric Green. Green played for the Arizona Cardinals last year. Most personnel evaluators in the NFL consider Green to be an average CB and a dropoff from Goodman. Green has only 2 interceptions in his 4 year career.

Dolphins sign Bell, but Goodman, Hill and Holliday are gone

Safety Yeremiah Bell signed a four-year, $20 million contract with the Dolphins last week. With the signing of Gibril Wilson, the Dolphins seem to have their safeties set. However, two other players in the secondary left in free agency. CB Andre Goodman and safety Renaldo Hill (made expendable after Wilson's signing) both signed with the Denver Broncos. The Dolphins will need to replace Goodman either through the draft, free agency, or promoting nickelback Nate Jones.

The Dolphins also waived DE Vonnie Holliday. The move seemed to be driven mainly be financial realities. Cutting Holliday meant the Dolphins saved $5.75 million in salary cap money as well as a $1.5 million signing bonus.
