Offense struggles in first preseason loss

The Miami Dolphins had better find last week's offense before the games that count. For the second time in three preseason games, the offense struggled, resulting in a 16-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Chad Henne was just 10 for 22 passing with 123 yards and an interception. Perhaps even more disturbing is that the running game, thought to be the strength of the offense, still hasn't produced in three games. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams were held for a combined 14 yards on 12 carries.

Camarillo traded to Vikings

WR Greg Camarillo was traded to the Minnesota Vikings for CB Benny Sapp. Camarillo was the team's second-most productive receiver in 2008 despite missing five games. He was widely expected to make the team as a backup receiver, and his departure makes Patrick Turner a near-lock to join the roster (with Brandon Marshall, Brian Hartline, and Davone Bess).

I don't know much about Benny Sapp. He's a seventh-year player who had an unspectacular 2009 season. Most likely, he'll only play in nickel and dime situations.

Offense rebounds in exhibition win against Jaguars

The Miami Dolphins offense, which was ineffective last week, finally woke up in a 27-26 preseason win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Chad Henne played for more than a quarter and completed 11 of 14 passes for 151 yards and 2 TDs. Brandon Marshall was the recipient of four of those passes for 65 yards. Tight end Anthony Fasano caught Henne's two TD passes. The running game, specifically Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, didn't fare as well. The two running backs combined for 7 carries and 21 yards. Even more distressing was the play of the first team defense. In the first half, the defense gave up 9 of 11 passing to two Jacksonville QBs for 118 yards and a touchdown. With the preseason half over, the Dolphins still need some work to do if they want to be playoff contenders, which I still think they can be this year.

Dolphins win rain-soaked preseason opener

The Dolphins starters played poorly in the rain, but the backups pulled out a 10-7 victory against the Tampa Bay Bucs in the preseason opener for both teams. Offensively, Chad Henne completed 5 of 11 passes for just 19 yards. New #1 receiver Brandon Marshall had no catches, dropping both passes that went to him. The only bright spot was Ronnie Brown's 20 yards on 5 carries, showing that he has recovered from surgery. On defense, the starters played better than their offensive counterparts but yielded a 60-yard touchdown drive to the Bucs. Thankfully, the team has a few more weeks to improve before the regular season begins.

Dolphins lose A.J. Edds, add Micah Johnson

Rookie linebacker A.J. Edds tore the ACL in his right knee and will be out for the season. Edds was working with the second team, mostly in passing situations. To replace him, the team picked up undrafted rookie Micah Johnson. Johnson was with the Giants until he was waived in late June. I don't know much more about him.
