Miami beats Buffalo Bills

Maybe the Dolphins should play more games against good teams. The Miami Dolphins got back on the winning track by defeating the AFC East leading Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins' three victories this season have come against the Patriots, Chargers, and the Bills -- all of them among the top teams in the AFC. However, Miami lost to the Jets, Cardinals, Texans, and Ravens, arriving at a 3-4 record.

Against the Bills, Chad Pennington had his best game as a Dolphin. He completed 22 of 30 passes for 314 yards and a touchdown. WR Ted Ginn finally showed signs that he was worthy of being a top 10 draft pick last year. Ginn caught 7 passes for 175 yards. On the other hand, the ground game was once again grounded. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams combined for 21 carries and only 59 yards.

Ravens, Cameron beat Dolphins

If Cam Cameron had as much success last year as he did against his former team today, he'd still be the Dolphins head coach. Cameron, now offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, helped direct his new team to a 27-13 victory over the Dolphins. The Ravens also gained some revenge; Miami's lone win last season was against Baltimore.

For the second game in a row, Ronnie Brown was held in check. He rushed for only 27 yards on 13 carries. Chad Pennington completed 24 of 35 passes for 295 and a touchdown, but he also tossed an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

The Dolphins have regressed since winning two in a row. After a close loss to the Texans, the Dolphins were outplayed against another sub-.500 team. Things don't get any easier the next two weeks, with games against the AFC East leading Bills and the AFC West leading Broncos. But perhaps that's just what the Dolphins need to regain their winning touch.

Texans get first win of season at Miami's expense

This was the most disappointing loss of the season so far. Just when it seemed like the Dolphins were turning the corner after victories over the Patriots and Chargers, they lost to the previously winless Houston Texans, 29-28. Despite the close score, the Texans outplayed the Dolphins in every significant statistical category.

The brightest spot may have been the continued efficient play of QB Chad Pennington. Pennington completed 19 of 25 passes for 284 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. However, the Texans kept the Dolphins rushers in check. Ronnie Brown gained only 50 yards on 13 carries, and Ricky Williams added 46 yards on 11 carries.

The next game against the Baltimore Ravens will be important. It will show whether the Dolphins are truly a better team, or if their two wins were flukes.

Dolphins upset Chargers

In successive games, the Miami Dolphins have beaten two of the top teams in the AFC, evening their record at 2-2. Today, it was a 17-10 win over the San Diego Chargers. Ronnie Brown scored another touchdown after taking a direct snap from center on his way to 125 yards on 24 carries. Chad Pennington had an efficient passing day, completing 22 of 29 attempts for 228 and a touchdown. The Dolphins had the ball for over 36 minutes.

Ball control and good defense helped shut down the NFL's highest scoring offense going into the game. The Dolphins held LaDainian Tomlinson to 35 yard on 12 carries. They also stuffed the Chargers at the one-yard line to preserve their lead in the fourth quarter.

Even with bye, Porter gets a sack

The Dolphins had a bye week, but that didn't stop LB Joey Porter from registering another sack. The Elias Sports Bureau credited another sack to Porter during the team's victory over the Patriots. Porter had four sacks in the game, a career-high.
