Dolphins lose first preseason game, sign Pennington

The Dolphins lost to the Buccaneers, 17-6, in their first preseason game. All three quarterbacks were mediocre in their performances, but Ricky Williams displayed some of his old skills, gaining 31 yards on 5 carries. Head coach Sparano also criticized the defense, calling it "not good enough."

The best news of the weekend probably came with Chad Pennington's signing. Pennington was the odd man out when the NY Jets acquired Brett Favre. I also like his signing more than I did McCown's. Pennington makes more sense as the veteran mentor to Beck and Henne while serving as the team's starting QB in the short-term. Sparano commented that all four quarterbacks will be on the roster for a while, but it will be a matter of time before one of them is cut. I'm placing my bet on McCown, with Beck as the second most likely candidate if he doesn't improve on his training camp performance.
